Human factors engineering at MEND.lab focuses on understanding how people interact with healthcare technologies within real care contexts. While human factors considerations play a role across much of our work, some projects place a specific emphasis on co‑creation, inclusive design, and usability.
In these projects, we study workflows, care pathways, and everyday practices to identify where existing solutions fall short and where new opportunities for design emerge.

Our approach centers on close collaboration with users throughout the early and exploratory phases of medical device development. By observing use in context, mapping workflows and the broader care cycle, and iterating together with users, we work toward solutions that are grounded in real needs and experiences rather than assumptions.
