MEND.lab is a medical engineering and design laboratory embedded within Ghent University. The lab operates at the intersection of product design, biomedical engineering, and clinical practice, bringing together researchers from the faculties of Engineering and Architecture, Biomedical Engineering, and Medicine within a collaborative translational research environment. Through structural collaborations with industry partners and a network of regional and university hospitals, MEND.lab focuses on transforming engineering innovation into clinically relevant healthcare solutions.

MEND.lab emerged from a shared conviction among researchers across multiple faculties: that meaningful healthcare innovation happens at the intersection of disciplines. While newly established, the lab brings together members with a collective track record of more than 15 years in medical device development: expertise now channelled into a common space designed to foster new connections within Ghent University. Rather than starting from scratch, MEND.lab builds deliberately on existing strengths, creating the conditions for interdisciplinary collaboration that is directly shaped by real‑world clinical and technological challenges.
MEND.lab brings together an interdisciplinary collective of researchers, clinicians, and engineers who combine their perspectives to improve healthcare.
